Hand made abstract expressionistic landscape wall art with silver leaf.
Following a series of photos I sketch the composition in charcoal on a hardwood panel. Once the composition is complete I spray fix the charcoal drawing and begin to paint using quality oil paints. The fun part is once the paint has dried I cover the painting with a hard wax resin, I melt the wax over the complete image, encaustic painting.
Encaustic painting, also known as hot wax painting, is a form of painting that involves a heated wax medium and oil pigments. The melted mix is applied to a hardwood surface. A slow technique the painting can be built up in relief. Once dry the wax gives a rich optical effect to the oil pigments used, which creates a moody haze that captures the essence of the old Southern oak trees. The painting's surface is then buffed with a soft cotton cloth creating a velvet finish. Each painting is embellished with one or two Swarovski crystals.
